Our task as designers was to integrate the product into KUKA’s existing corporate design. Furthermore, the functional needs are dominating the appearance: Considering the required kinematics drive units and cable loops had to be placed in a minimum of space. In favor of weight reduction purposes, the robot first was designed for injection molding. Regarding more component stiffness and higher precision the system finally was created in metal die casting.
